Rise Across Texas Challenge Celebrity Ride

More than 200 bicyclists joined VIPs including Governor Rick Perry and six-time Tour de France rider and U.S. National Champion Kevin Livingston in the Rise Across Texas Challenge Celebrity Bike Ride March 10, 2010.

A big hometown crowd gathered at the site of the Rise School in Austin to greet the Rise Across Texas Challenge cyclists as they passed through town during their two-week, cross-state bike ride. Watch video from competitor.com.

The event began with a BBQ lunch and was attended by cyclists plus Rise School students, families and supporters. Special guests included Bevo and University of Texas cheerleaders and children were entertained by balloon artists, face painters, jugglers, cotton candy makers, and tricycles.

Setting off from the Rise School the cyclists pedaled about 16 miles through scenic Hill Country roads to the Salt Lick restaurant in Driftwood for an after-party complete with live music.

The Celebrity Ride raised funds and awareness of the Rise Schools in Texas.
